WHITEFIRE WOMEN

"Despite what is seen in the movies or on the news, women are actually held in very high regard in Islam. Since the beginning, Muslim women have been able to have their own property, and they?ve basically had equal status with men, long before other countries."

With a fair complexion and a Mid-western twang, Connie Yaqub is a reassuring representative of Islam for Americans. Married to a Palestinian Muslim and mother of two daughters, she is also a passionate advocate for a fair portrayal of Islam and Muslims in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she lives with her family. She has special interest in speaking on behalf of the Palestinians embattled with Israel. Connie has written "Accommodating Muslim Students in Public Schools: Considerations for Teachers and Administrators" to enlighten the largely Anglo and Hispanic community in New Mexico about the practices of Islam.
